Powered by Even Technologies video compression solutions, BFS Media’s network delivery system enables ZHTV to use IP for live rebroadcast of CCTV’s Olympic coverage
Vancouver, BC - September 2, 2008 - Even Technologies Inc. ("Even" or "Even Technologies" TSX-V: ETI), a leader in advanced video compression solutions, and BFS Media Limited ("BFS") are pleased to announce the successful completion of an extended IP broadcast contribution trial with Zhuhai TV ("ZHTV").
Using Even Technologies' video compression solutions, BFS Media and Zhuhai TV successfully delivered live CCTV coverage of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the most watched games in Olympic history. Even Technologies was selected to provide video encoding solutions to enable Zhuhai TV to capture CCTV's 24 hour Olympic coverage in Beijing and transfer it over IP networks at bit rates of 400kbps to provide viewer coverage to ZHTV audiences.
The compression technology has enabled the impossible - eliminating the need for satellites in broadcast contribution. By using preexisting networks to transmit high resolution, low bandwidth video from Beijing, Zhuhai TV was able to effectively deliver Olympic events from their broadcast centre in Zhuhai to viewers throughout the western region of China. Previously, the large video files and costly satellite fees prohibited Zhuhai from providing live services to their viewers.
Not only were hundreds of hours of Olympic coverage being transmitted live but also, hundreds of video on demand clips were created for viewers to watch after the live broadcast. The four month trial began with the broadcast of Zhuhai TV's 24 hour news channel and culminated with CCTV's rebroadcast of the 24 hour Olympic Channel using Even Technologies' encoding solutions. Zhuhai TV's technical team has embraced the technology as the best they have seen and add that "after more than four months of non-stop tests over the local web, we have found it is the best video compression technology. The video quality is much higher compared to others we have evaluated." CCTV also expressed that they are very impressed with the video quality of the ZHTV rebroadcast.
Zhuhai TV will further expand the concept of 'One World, One Dream' by using the compression technology on BFS Media's global content delivery network to bring two live channels and countless video on demand titles to their viewers. With the success of the four month trial, Zhuhai TV will expand their delivery platform with BFS and further deploy Even's compression technology in additional video applications.
Steve John, Director of BFS Media says, "The successful completion of these trials and their culmination with the Olympic success sets the table for major in-roads into live content delivery market for BFS and Even Technologies."
